‘insert blog title here’

Hello again and welcome to another blog…

A regular reminisce on all things NathanPhoto and with last week’s events it brought back memories of one of my hated subjects to photograph, that’s funerals, I’ve attended many and photographed a few but they never really sat well with me at all. In fact the last job I did for a big agency that won’t be named was a funeral, not sure if those two facts are related but I remember after it taking a long hard look in a mirror at myself and thought what the hacks are you doing? Is this what you want? Believe I started the long walk away at that point, think this decision was backed up by a lot of things that I saw on insta recently, with a lot of bravado and machoism regarding a couple of agency snappers some using the #funeralready hashtag. Am I being too ‘sensitive’ or does anyone else find that slightly distasteful? Yeah, yeah, yeah I know about the ‘in the public interest but it’s newssss’ defence and I know someone had to be there, wonder in the daily fAil sent a snapper to specifically target Meghan again?

Thinking about that defence, one which has been fed to me and given to me many times and yes I think I’ve relied on it in a previous incarnation but I’m really unsure of it now, it raises all sorts of behaviours that I’m now recognising that could be classed as toxic, I didn’t really see it when I was working around it, or maybe I couldn’t see any way out of it, so therefore it was allowed to slip by?

I think one thing this dialogue that this process could change is that the seemingly widespread fact that the majority don’t buy political criticism anymore; the actual people running the country seem to slip by scandal and morality relatively unscathed. Where all the ire is saved and raised for 2 presenters who used their press privilege to skip a queue. That does seem like quite a twisted media we are subscribing too, doesn’t it?

Think I’ll stop there, as this could turn into one of those rant pieces, scarily political too which we are told doesn’t push you up any rankings, as these full-on rant pieces divide rather than conquer.

It does seem like I’m developing a regular pattern in my blogs just recently, monthlies, rant, funny and random so far are the categories. That’s not so bad a thing, I guess. This is one of the shorter blogs that I’m trialling, sometime my other practice takes all the words I can write, and this week has been no different, been invited to show some work in an MA alumni show coming up, needs words and thought so therefore something has to give and unfortunately its sometimes the blogging but that’s ok.

Right for an image this week, thought I’d show this one.

A Church steeple in Greater Manchester sticks out from the fog as the changing of the seasons represent something more.

I took it while on an assignment (first like this in a long time!) Thinking about time, space, conditions and viewpoint as part of the key things in most photography but especially reportage/documentary/editorial work. Sometimes just two will combine to make a shot. I see this one as strongly falling into that category and a bit of a shock it’s actually what you call a nice image, I may even enter it in a nice photographic competition but what if it places?!? I’d have to drop the none-award-winning tagline from my socials and seriously thinking about the #idonttakenicepictures that I use…

Foods for thought.

Again I’d like to thank you for reading, any comments, feedback or thought please get me by the usual channels.
