HNY !
Hello, let me be the first to wish you a Happy New Year, I really hope 2023 will be a great one for you all and may it bring some cheer (especially after the year we’ve all had.)
Usual customs dictate that at the beginning of the year you look forward rather than backwards so I’m writing this as a special one, the usual format of the ‘first blog of the month looking back over the previous months work’ won’t apply for this month as it’s sometimes nice to stick to traditions.
Looking forward then (and possibly sort-of New Year’s resolutions-ing), specifically thinking about the NathanPhoto and the blog for 2023 I would like to:
· Make more of the archive, which means sorting the archive out into a manageable (saleable) thing, this will in turn make more discussions which I’ll share here, this may border on my research practice so we’ll have to see how that pans out.
· Make more work. Specifically thinking I’d like to return to my roots with a new documentary type project centred on something, someone or a place. Still working the time constraints and opportunity as it must have some value and not become just a vanity project.
· More work as in my portfolio needs a refresh especially the portraiture side so I’m looking for people for new portraits, so if anybody needs any headshots/portraits/likenesses making then please drop me a line, I’ll also being firing out some emails looking for people to stand in front of my camera.
· More work in the #NPMonthlyWord (may need a new hashtag too?) I’m going to keep it up this year and if anybody would like to contribute then please feel free, you can drop me a mail in. the usual places.
· Lastly one that I want to do (and is part of a wider one that we should all be involved in is to) be kinder to myself, specifically being kinder to things that happen. I’ve always aimed to post once a week and I’m aiming to continue that in 2023, but if I miss, I won’t beat myself up and will just continue with it the week after. I have a whole load of posts from last year that I missed so rather than looking back I will incorporate them into this year’s missives.
There we go with 2023 then hope it is truly wonderful for you and that it brings you joy.
For the image I thought I’d share one from my New Year’s Day walk which has become a thing for me, this year was mainly shooting for the research practice but snuck this one in which I think is a bit of a hint towards the new direction for NathanPhoto. It is of Manchester, probably not a typical viewpoint (think there may be a reason for that!!) I believe that this theme of light unusual viewpoints and the suchlike is something I will be picking up on heavily in 2023, I’ll be looking at various aspects of Manchester City centre with a stock photo/archive/documentation hat on, so consider this a starting point to move forward from.
Thank you again for all your contributions, comments, love, support and everything else in 2022. If you have any thoughts, feedback or anything else then please get me through the usual channels.
